BFA Graphic Design Thesis: “In This Warmth”
Collage, Image Transfers
2024
My senior thesis was about redefining the concept of intimacy to encompass more than it does in traditional contexts. My project argued that intimacy was the foundation of connection and that connection could be found anywhere if you were open to it (between people, your mental and physical body, the earth, music, art, etc.) To visualize this concept, I spent some time experimenting with image transfer which was a process I had just discovered. I liked how the process gave images a “lived in” feeling. My final installation was a textile piece that featured a collage with my own photography produced through a solvent transfer process using paint remover. I also created acrylic transfer prints. Throughout this process, I experimented with my visual style, tried new mediums, and used my design background to compose compositions and images.

Full collage, produced on 1 yard of quilting cotton. The end result feels hazy and dream-like.
The collage of images communicate the feeling of connection, a merging with the world around you.
The collage features self portraits, photos of people I have known closely, the land, and natural forms.

I also created some separate prints of some of the images in the collage.
